School, Reading & Life (among other things)

October 4, 2015

So, is Julia dead or what?!?

Nope!  I'm glad to report she's thankfully not.  She's a bit scuffed and bruised from getting caught in an onslaught of schoolwork, but other than that - perfectly fine.  (As fine as a junior in high school can be, anyway.)

So, hey everyone!  How's life going?  Good?  Great?  Wonderfully?  Glad to hear it.  It's finally October and that means the holidays are speedily approaching.  Everyone says it, but I'll have to join the chorus: I cannot believe it.  The year is passing oh so very quickly.

Living life day by day seems long and slow, but when taken a step back from, it's pretty fast.

Since we're all extremely busy during this time of year (me included), I thought I'd make a brief update post about what's going on in my life.

Firstly, I'll repeat it again: I'm very much not dead.  I apologize for the embarrassing deficit of posts, but school calls!  Unfortunately, I just don't have a lot of free time on my hands.  I would love to read more, but I can only manage to indulge myself on the weekends.

I'm currently reading Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.  I picked up this bad boy of a book on its Tuesday release day, but I was not able to begin reading until yesterday evening.  I'm only around page 70, so I haven't formed much of an opinion yet.  However, I'm excited to continue on with the story.  (I've only heard amazing feedback on this book!)  My co-blogger Rachel over at APCB wrote an awesome review here, which basically persuaded me to purchase a copy.

I plan on finishing Six of Crows sometime this week, so pray with me for a lighter homework load and look forward to a review!

• I made a Goodreads account!
I honestly have no idea how to use it and I'm clueless as to what I'm doing half the time, but . . . still.  Feel free to friend me.  Click here.

• NaNoWriMo?  Maybe?
It's no secret that I love to read, but I also love to write.  Okay, so maybe I have a hard time sticking to stories I start.  Maybe I hardly finish anything . . . but I want to change that.  I suppose I just become easily bored and easily distracted.  NaNoWriMo sounds like a great way to get myself motivated and writing.  I honestly don't think it's feasible to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days while I'm in school, but maybe I'll still join in on all the angst in November to at least try.  It's worth a shot, right?  Has anyone attempted (or won) NaNo?  If so, I applaud you.

• You're all awesome.
(This isn't really news, though.  I think you knew that.)

Well . . . see you.  And thank you, if you actually read this jumbled mess of a post.  :-)

Julia Anne

I'm a teen with a refined taste for good books and great writing, currently living in Honolulu, HI. I'm a reader. A dreamer. And an aspirant writer. One day I have hopes to travel the world, but for now, I'll settle with venturing through the written works I read.

  1. Yay, Julia Anne!! I am so excited for Six of Crows too! (Haven't gotten a copy yet though, unfornately) But I definitely know where you're coming from since I've been crushed under the weight of schoolwork too. I've had so little time to read and blog too... And if you ever need Goodreads help let me know! I've been on GR for over a year and sort of used to have an obsession with it so I know my way around pretty well... AND DO NANOWRIMO!!!! I'm going to try and do it too (as well as some other blogger people) so it would be awesome to have a little support group going on :)

    1. Thanks for the comment, Alex!! I will be praying for the two of us. Hopefully we'll be able to survive the school year (haha). And thanks for the offer! I think I just have to familiarize myself more with GR a bit more. I've always read reviews on there, but not much else.

AND OKAY, YAY. WE CAN BE NANO BUDDIES!! I'm currently trying to plan out my story, but . . . I'm pretty terrible at planning. I'll make sure I'm ready to go by November 1, though. I look forward to hearing more about your NaNo story. :-)

  8. I'm thinking about doing NaNoWriMo too! I mean, I do have school as well so I don't think I'd be able to write that much, but I still think it'd motivate me to write more than I currently am. Ooh and Six of Crows -- Rachel's review totally has me pumped to read it (currently on a book buying ban though *cries*)

    1. YES! Do it with me!! We can motivate each other throughout November. :-) Haha, I'm sorry to hear you're on a book buying ban. I should probably be on a ban too, but I just can't resist the temptation of new books!

      Thanks for the comment.

I had a few minor qualms with it, but adored it for the most part. And thank you for reminding me that I'm awesome. ;)
